The Hammock has become our favorite after-school-relax-into-the-evening Spring spot for us. Most every afternoon finds two or more of us nestled up together. Sometimes the hammock hosts our chatterings about our days' happenings, and sometimes it hosts our all out tickle fests. And sometimes it hosts relaxation for the big people as the little people climb in the trees above.
This past Friday night was just about as good as it gets. While hanging out in our Spot, we discovered a true sign of the season. Momma Dove has built her nest right atop one of our hanging orchid baskets on the tree that supports the hammock. Of all places for her to nest--she has given us a sort of bird's eye view! That dove and her 2 eggs have entertained us for hours since our discovery. I commented to Rod that wasn't she a smart momma to have built her nest in a swinging basket- the nester that I am figured it was a great spot for the gentle breeze to rock her chickadees. Rod had a good chuckle at that and assured me that it was more likely that it was easier for her to stack her sticks and other materials in that basket as opposed to the limbs of the tree. Ha!
